Blog Action Day Oct 15: Address Poverty with New Media

Hi friends and fellow IBNMA members. I'm thrilled to share with you two fantastic news items:

  1. Blog Action Day 2008 is on Wednesday, October 15. Thousands of bloggers worldwide will address the tough subject of poverty. Dozens of poverty relief organizations, companies and popular blogs are participating.
  2. I'm the assistant event coordinator. :) I'm heading the Blog Action Day blog, Twitter account, wiki, social media presence and email inbox. It's insane in the best possible sense of the word.
Please support Blog Action Day. Every added voice is a win for blogs and new media and a win for the IBNMA (which is one of our official supporting organizations - thank you!).

Tell your friends in high and low places. Rally the troops, as they say.

And be creative. Hold a contest and give money to charity. Host a radio show. Make a triumphant video. Visit your local soup kitchen and blog about the experience. Share your favorite '80s movies with poor people in starring roles. Etc.

Let me know if you decide to do anything remarkable for Blog Action Day and I'll be sure to post about it on our event blog and on Twitter.

This is going to be a great case study on how new media can change mainstream media and even political conversations around a cause.

Thanks for letting me have the floor here. Now I'm back to work on BAD '08 stuff. It'll be a mostly sleepless week. :)
